Aqua Drift is a sustainable floating garden designed for a waterlogged future, comprised of a hand-sewn coir base that nurtures and holds aquatic plants while a lashed Japanese Knotweed flotation device keeps it adrift. This partially biodegradable system simplifies harvesting in flooded environments, offering an eco-friendly solution that seamlessly integrates with nature.

We first brainstormed different speculative futures and chose one where the effects of climate change have resulted in an alarming rise of sea levels. This image is AI generated based on our speculative future.

Prototyping

Using wood, japanese knotweed, and string, we made a simple box prototype. We learned that it was too heavy to float, but that we liked the shape.
